Filled beyond capacity, uncomfortable, unhealthy, spoiled, damaged, yet continuously taking on more than space allows is a hoarder.
Through self-nomination and or an outside recommendation, the lives of hoarders have been exposed in an attempt to uncover the truth behind their clutter. At the onset of the transformation process, the participants are eager to reveal the chaos that has been masked behind closed doors. The individuals are open in sharing emotional connections to possessions along with justifications on how past events have led to the over consumptions of "things".
At the point where the hoarder has accepted help, they are faced with decisions of surrendering their belonging for a new lease on life or holding on to what has always been. It is at this crossroad where you will witness how ones fear of letting go blocks the mending of healthy relationships with one's self, family, friends and external possessions. It is with each emotional impressions that the individual will have to recognize when to store aways and when to throw away.
The inability to let go of unhealthy remnants can foster feelings of failure, low self-worth, insecurities, doubt, hopelessness, guilt, and shame. These feelings can ultimately lead to emotional setbacks, delayed promises, and unhealthy decision-makings.
Learning to properly discard emotional scars that tarnish and or hinder future growth is a step towards spiritual cleanliness. I know, easier said than done! The process of releasing the emotional baggage may leave one feeling exposed and unprepared for the unknown; however, learning to extract the necessities from life's experiences will help to create a healthy pool of emotional resources.
Similar to the natural process, the spiritual hoarders initial stages to spiritual cleansing is sharing the justification to why the emotional baggage is essential to living. Followed by the acknowledgement that harboring unhealthy emotions can lead to spiritual deterioration. Once the connection between unhealthy emotional baggage and spiritual deterioration is understood, the spiritual hoarder faces their own spiritual crossroad. The spiritual hoarder will either open the doors of their soul exposing the emotional confusions to God in exchange for a spiritual makeover, or the spiritual hoarder will resist the help and continue to live life isolated, damaged, unclean, and spiritually delayed.
Just as there is help to come clean in the natural, take advantage of the available resources for spiritual cleansing. Let God make you anew.
